“Coming to the Hospice for my blood transfusions has made a big difference in my life. I tell everybody how good this place is.”
Elaine from Coxhoe visits our Living Well Centre each week to access our therapeutic care and around every four weeks she receives blood transfusions as an outpatient.
“The District Nurse visits my home weekly to take a blood test to see if I will need a transfusion. If the numbers are low, I’ll have either one or two bags transfused at the Hospice. If things are looking ok, I’ll come along and have a reiki session to help me relax.”
“It’s very different at the Hospice compared to the Hospital. Here, I can have one bag transfused and then take a break, walk around the gardens, grab some lunch in the coffee shop, and then have the second one later. It’s all so relaxed.”
“The District Nurse had noticed I was feeling really low, I was lonely and quite poorly. She suggested I come to the Hospice for the blood transfusions and I instantly said yes. I had been here as an in-patient a while back and spent a few days on the ward getting better and I was very well looked after.”
“As soon as I walked in the atmosphere just hit me. Everyone spoke to me, there was lots of chatter and laughing. It’s completely changed my life and I look forward to coming. I get picked up on the patient transport to come in and I don’t have to worry about anything. Being here and getting such great care has changed my life. My family are pleased to know that I’m being so well cared for.”
“When I get onto the bed to have reiki, it doesn’t get rid of the pain, but it eases it so much. The gentle touch is lovely and I sometimes even get a foot massage. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs it. I hope to come here to finish my days when the time comes. It’s made such a difference to my life.”
The care we provide is free of charge. We are incredibly grateful to all who kindly donate to us to help make sure we are here to make a life-changing difference to those who need us.
