Wednesday 17th April 2024
All day today, for twenty four whole hours, our Living Well Centre costs have been donated in loving memory of Veronica Alvarez with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. We are extremely grateful for this special donation, below we share the loving words of Veronica’s family…
“Veronica lived a very rich and varied life – full of friends, family, travel, creative pursuits, and activism. She engaged with the world around her, and never stopped believing that it could be improved, striving tirelessly to help those in the greatest need. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, colleague, educator and so much more. She is thought of every day by her family and her many friends all over the world. Veronica made a deep impression on all who met her and the memories we have of her will always remain with us.
She met the challenges of her illness with great bravery, maintaining a stoic, dignified and graceful attitude throughout. She was helped enormously by the wonderful kindness she received from the exceptional staff who cared for her at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Veronica and her family wanted to give something back to St Cuthbert’s and it was one of Veronica’s last wishes that a donation be made in her name to the place that gave her such outstanding comfort, care, and support at the end of her life.
In addition, Veronica’s youngest grandson Zach completed a fundraising run in November 2023, and when choosing a cause to fundraise for, without hesitation Zach said he wanted to help the Hospice that had helped his Grandma.
We are very grateful to all the generous donations received for Zach’s fundraiser which has enabled us to ‘Pay for a Day’ of care at St Cuthbert’s. The day we have chosen is Veronica’s birthday 17th April.”
