Insight Cover Letter
We often describe the Hospice as a special place – what makes it so special for you?
Most of you will have experience of the Hospice, perhaps a loved one has been supported by our services, or you have fundraised for us. You might be one of our wonderful volunteers or visit our charity shops to grab a bargain. It’s hard to put our fingers on what makes our Hospice so magic, but we think it might have something to do with our incredible team and local community who surround us with their unwavering support.
It’s our healthcare staff who take the time to care, our bereavement team who are always ready to listen and our family support team who offer guidance for those in our care and their families too. It’s our housekeepers who make sure everywhere is clean and comfy, and our catering team who prepare delicious meals for our guests and visitors – the list could go on and on! Our dedicated community of staff, volunteers and supporters help make this place feel the way it does, when you walk through our front door. We all serve the Hospice with such pride because, like you, we know it’s a special place which matters to so many.
Thank you for helping us be there to care. We can only do what we do, because of you.
Your support helps us to be there to care – when someone is fearful, or perhaps has lost confidence in their ability as they adapt to their new ‘day to day’, learning to live with their life-limiting illness.
When someone faces hard decisions about their care, and needs expert advice.
When someone is approaching the end of life, and needs a place of safety with calm and quiet surroundings.
When someone’s heart is broken, feeling the loss of a loved one, and needs support to heal.
For those who receive our care, a hug, a kind word, a listening ear, and a chance to chat with someone who gets what they are going through, makes more of a difference than we might ever know.
In this edition, we speak with Social Worker Aislinn and Family Support Worker Sam about how they support our patients and their families, and check in on one of our Living Well Centre groups and their guests, who tell us all about the difference our care makes to their day.
We also launch our Sunflower Memories Appeal which helps us celebrate happy memories of loved ones and hear about the latest updates from our Fundraising Team.
We are always amazed at how much support we receive from our local community. We hope that when you read this issue of Insight you feel connected to St Cuthbert’s and know that we are able to continue to be there to care, because of your help.
By donating what you can, be it time, money or donations to our shops, you are helping us to continue to provide our special kind of care to people in County Durham and their families, now and for the future.
Thank you for helping us to make treasured moments and special memories for so many.
With grateful thanks,
The Team at St Cuthbert’s Hospice
