Insight Cover Letter

Many of you receiving this newsletter will already have experienced the life-changing care that is provided each and every day at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Many of you will also be aware of the reaction that often comes soon after you say the word ‘Hospice’ to friends, family or colleagues. Some of you likely had that same reaction yourselves. After all, it’s completely normal that people don’t know much about Hospice care until they need our support.

People always tell us they wish they’d known about us sooner. Known the breadth of care we give. Known how different a Hospice is to what you expect.

With the stories in Insight Magazine, we can help to break down the misconceptions about what a Hospice is, and with your support, reach more people who need us.

Your support helps us to be different, and to make a difference.

In this edition, we speak to our Therapy Team about their roles at the Hospice, and our focus on holistic care. They discuss the importance of rehabilitative palliative care, an approach which empowers and encourages people to actively manage their illness, live as fully as they can and focus on how they can have the best quality of life possible.

The team’s approach to care, is summarised perfectly by physiotherapist Jenny:

“We know that following a diagnosis, we can’t change the outcome, but what we can do is make sure that someone’s quality of life, between now and then, is the best it can be.”

Thank you for supporting us in every way you can. Be it the time you take to drop donations off at our charity shops, to spending a few hours volunteering in our gardens each week, to climbing massive mountains in all weathers. Or by simply passing this magazine onto someone else once you’re finished with it. Whatever you do and however you do it, means we can continue to care, and continue to make every day count.

We hope you enjoy reading this edition of Insight Magazine.
