Hundreds of people are expected to follow June Carter’s hearse on Monday in a unique occasion that will be remembered for generations.
June’s remarkable spirit shone through and inspired her legions of admiring friends throughout her life. And then right at the end of it, her wise and noble words moved many, many more throughout the country.
Jim Carter, her loving life partner over three decades and husband came in to St Cuthbert’s Hospice yesterday to kindly give us some more pictures of their wedding here earlier this month.
He said that the idea started with 70 or so friends who wanted to walk behind the hearse on its way to the Cathedral. Yesterday, he told us he thought around 250 would go. They will gather in Durham market place at 1.30pm with the service starting in the cathedral, where Jim was a porter for 20 years, at 2pm.
Jim said yesterday he and the whole family would like to thank everyone for their support and kindness.
Here are one or two of the new photos of the wedding that Jim brought in to show us. Plus a picture of June in her room at St Cuthbert’s Hospice, knitting away, making a nurse. Her cleverly knitted figures raised a lot of money for us. And a link to the Echo story about the funeral.
