A GREAT North Run veteran is donning her trainers yet again to raise funds for St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
Rita Brown, 74, will take on the world’s greatest half-marathon for the 14th time in September and is already pounding the streets with her faithful Jack Russell, Little Ant, in preparation.
Rita, from Leamside, has been volunteering at the Hospice for eight years, serving drinks and snacks at Park House Café and helping out in our Houghton-le-Spring shop.
She has taken part in many of our fundraising events over the years and is passionate about the work we do.
“There is an amazing atmosphere at the Hospice,” said Rita. “Everyone is so kind and caring and it’s good to know I am supporting a local charity.
“I’m very excited about the Great North Run. I’m going with my cousins, Alison and Adam, so it should be a great day. It will be a challenge, as I haven’t run a half-marathon for about eight years, but I ‘m looking forward to it.”
Sponsorship forms are available at Park House Café or the Hospice shop in Newbottle Street, Houghton-le-Spring.
