Birtley East Primary School
A huge well done to the children at Birtley East Primary School who visited us to present us with a cheque for £3664.35!
Mrs Ward from the school told us more about their fundraising:
“I received a letter from St Cuthbert’s promoting their Santa Run (last year). I decided that it would build more of a community spirit if we supported a local charity instead of a national one.
So far, we have taken part in a whole school Santa Run, where we walked around the local community singing Christmas songs and wearing our Santa hats! In the summer we celebrated the end of term with a Colour Run obstacle course, with paint very kindly provided by the Hospice. The children absolutely loved this and it was a great (and colourful!) way to end the year!
Through our fundraising, we have learned a lot about the kind of care the hospice provides. The children were amazed by how much it actually costs to run the Hospice and they were so pleased that we raised money to support this. Many of our families have been affected by illness and bereavement, which I think made it such a worthy cause to support. We were able to visit the Hospice and see the kind of nurturing environment they provide for their patients.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed both fundraising activities that we have held for the Hospice. The extra touch of providing Santa hats really meant a lot to our children, some of whom didn’t have any other Christmas clothing/accessories. They also loved that someone from the Hospice came along to our events and got well and truly involved with the fun and paint-throwing!
I would encourage any schools thinking of supporting St Cuthbert’s to definitely consider them for any fundraising activities. Not only will they be able to have lots of fun with the children in school, they will also be raising money for a very worthy cause.”

Red Rose Primary School
At Red Rose Primary School we have taken part in a number of events with the aim of raising money for St. Cuthbert’s Hospice. The hospice is a cause very close to our hearts as a very loved and much missed member of staff, Dawn Hodgson, received excellent support and care in her final months. For this we will be forever grateful. One of the events that we have particularly enjoyed in school was the Colour Run. St Cuthbert’s staff were fantastic in providing us with the ideas, risk assessment and powder paint needed to plan the event and then it was down to us as a staff to use creativity and equipment to create an obstacle course.
