Fashion Show raises funds for Hospice
Compass Fashion Show 2024, a charity fashion show held by students at South College, Durham University has raised over £9,000 for local charity St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
Supporting the Hospice as their chosen charity since their inaugural fashion show, the college students have now raised over £20,000 for the Hospice.
Their most recent fashion show in June 2024 saw students take to the catwalk wearing clothing which they had chosen from the charity’s Prince Bishops Place and Claypath charity shops.
This is the third year students have chosen St Cuthbert’s Hospice as their chosen charity, partnering with the Hospice to allow students to visit the shops as well as the Hospice itself for tours to learn more about Hospice care, fundraising at events in the run up to and during the evening of the fashion show.
This year’s event theme was ‘Modern Mythopoeia’ exploring the transient nature of contemporary life, rooted in the myths of Ovid’s metamorphoses.
Charis Omer and Jude Hobbs-Brake, organisers of the 2024 event said:
“Having been involved since Compass’ inaugural year, it was so rewarding to see it all come together for a third year and for us to continue supporting St Cuthbert’s Hospice. We believe that our involvement with the Hospice is so important, as not only does our fundraising have an impact, but it provides an opportunity for us to learn more about the amazing work St Cuthbert’s Hospice does and helps to destigmatise palliative care. Ultimately, we could not have done it without our amazing team who gave up a lot of time and effort to make everything come together. We hope to have set a precedent going forward, so Compass Charity Fashion Show can continue growing and expanding to raise even more in years to come. This year’s co-presidents, Lily and Shabba, look forward to continuing fundraising initiatives throughout 2024-2025 to raise even more money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice.”
St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Community Fundraiser Erin Wright said:
“We can’t believe how well all of the students have done this year in their fundraising! The event has become a highlight in our calendar for the team to attend and say thank you to the students and staff of South College for all of their hard work. Whilst raising money for us, the students are also raising awareness of sustainable fashion by showcasing some of the amazing items we have for sale in our charity shops.”
