This week we join hospices up and down the country to shine a light on our charity shops.
People in Durham donate and buy thousands of amazing items in our charity shops every week. Without people shopping sustainably and supporting our shops, we simply couldn’t provide the compassionate care so many rely on in our community.
Every single donation helps deliver care.
Each year we must raise over £2 million so that we can continue to provide free care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses, people approaching the end of life and people that are bereaved. Our shops help to raise around £940,000 a year. It’s not an exaggeration to say we rely on the kindness of donors and the thriftiness of shoppers on our high streets.
Could you volunteer in one of our shops?
An army of over 200 volunteers help to keep the doors open and greet the many shoppers who visit us each week. The variety of tasks completed in our charity shops can be one of the reasons people enjoy volunteering with us so much. From dressing windows and creating shelf displays, to steaming clothes for the shop floor and tagging items, to ringing the sales through the till or scanning books to be sold online.
