Students from South College at Durham University dazzled on the catwalk last Summer when they hosted their very first Compass Charity Fashion Show and we were lucky enough to be picked as their chosen charity! 💚
With monies now all counted, we’re delighted to announce that the students have raised almost £7,000!
Students decided to fundraise for the Hospice and host the Compass Charity Fashion Show after some of the students had been encouraged to volunteer at our St Cuthbert’s Hospice Durham Shop with support from Durham University Volunteering Team.
The Compass Charity Fashion Show event saw 30 models take part, with the theme being ‘States of Entropy’.
What made the event even more special for us, was that for one of the catwalks, students decided they wanted to link in even more closely with our shops and paid a visit to our St Cuthbert’s Hospice Durham Shop and St Cuthbert’s Hospice Langley Moor Shop to pick pieces to wear on the night, emphasising the importance of sustainable fashion and the power charity shops play, not just in their vital role of helping to raise funds for local charities, but also in doing good for the planet by reducing ‘fast fashion’ waste 🌎 ♻️
On the night, Christine, one of our Win Win Lottery Ambassadors attended as a special guest and was able to thank the students and staff at the college for choosing us and for putting on such a great show!
Community Fundraiser Erin Wright was also there to cheer on the models and said:
“Christine and I were delighted to attend the show, it was an amazing night. There was such a good atmosphere and a wonderful focus on body positivity all while raising funds for a fantastic cause.
After the show, we wanted to invite some of the students to come along to the Hospice to say thank you in person, so they could learn more about our care and see where their fundraising efforts would be making a difference for the patients and families we care for here in County Durham. Ten students called along and brought some of their Hospice charity shop looks to show us and we did a photo shoot in our wonderful gardens and grounds in the sunshine”.
We’d like to say thank you to everyone at South College and Compass Charity Fashion Show for their hard work and amazing fundraising, especially the models and everyone ‘behind the scenes’ on the night and with special mention to the Compass Fashion Show Exec Team: Tom Bever – President, Isabel McGinty – Co-Assistant President, Molly Monksfield – Vice-President Logistics, Emma Gillespie – Co-Vice President Creative, Holly Downes – Co-Vice President Creative, Alice Bathurst – Fashion Communicator and Charis Omer – Charity Liaison.
Charis Omer, Charity Liaison from Compass Fashion Show Charity Exec said:
“As a team, we were delighted to work with and support St Cuthbert’s Hospice throughout this whole process. It was a pleasure to have Christine and Erin there on the night to enjoy the show with us. Furthermore, it was lovely to come along to the Hospice and see what all our hard work was going towards. We would love to thank Sarah and Erin for organising the shoot, it was lovely and even better to show off the clothes from the charity shop in the amazing grounds.”
Thank you to models Henry, Nick, Elvis, Bhav, Emily, Theo, Bobby, Charis, fashion communications team member Alice and photographer Izzy for coming along to see us and taking part in a fashion shoot in our Hospice gardens.
