Thursday 19th January
All day today, for twenty four whole hours, our full clinical running costs have been donated in loving memory of Linda Miller with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation.
Members of Linda’s family – Kevin, Carla and Daniel McMullen swam a marathon for us in November and raised over £3,500 to ‘Pay For a Day’. They each swam 563 lengths of a 25m pool in one day!
We are extremely grateful for this special donation in Linda’s memory. Below are some words her daughter Nichola has shared on behalf of their family to mark today’s Pay For A Day:
“When my Mam, Linda Miller was diagnosed with terminal cancer she was 67 years old. She would often come to the Living Well Centre and attend classes. She particularly loved Reiki and would come out really relaxed and almost ‘high’.
She would often sit with me and her family after her classes and enjoy a cuppa and cheese scone. Linda would always say that she loved being at the Hospice, as she felt like a ‘normal’ person and not someone with cancer.
Our family cannot thank all the staff and volunteers enough for making Linda feel human again in her last months of life. Linda ultimately lost her battle to cancer in the comfort of St Cuthbert’s Hospice on 19th January 2018.
There are not enough thank you’s, I or any of my family can give for the care, support, and love we all received from the Hospice during her illness and after her passing.
People often think the word Hospice denotes a sad place and yes it is, but it should be known for all the joy and comfort it gives to patients and their families during the worst of their lives when losing someone close to them.”
Thank you to Linda’s family for sharing their memories and helping us to remember Linda today.
