“Gerry was not only my father-in-law but one of my mates as well. Gerry was married to Sandra for 52 years. He was a loving dad, grandad, great grandad and a friend to many.
Family and friends were everything to Gerry. He was a true gent and loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Gerry had the biggest heart and had great character. He was the life and soul of a party and loved getting up to dance to his favourite song by Tavares ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’. He enjoyed a pint or two in his local Working Men’s Club with his son Tony on a Friday night and fellow pigeon fancier men, and then having a laugh and a bit craic on a Saturday with the lads.
Gerry was in good health, however in Jan 2020, in his words said he ‘felt like he had lost his mojo’. Following a GP visit things deteriorated very very quickly; 2 weeks from start to finish unfortunately.
Gerry’s daughter Nicola (my wife) volunteered at the Hospice on a Friday and had always said what a special place St Cuthbert’s is. So when our family got the devastating news that Gerry had days to live, Nicola was determined her dad would pass peacefully in this special place. Luckily for Gerry, and us as a family, we managed to get a bed at St Cuthbert’s and we moved Gerry from the hospital to the Hospice. It was the perfect place for Gerry to be.
When your world gets turned upside down the Hospice staff know how to do all the right things, not just keeping Gerry as comfortable as possible, but also supporting the family with their needs.
We cannot thank the Hospice and its staff enough and will continue to show our gratitude and support this amazing place in any way we can.

All day today, for twenty-four whole hours, our full clinical running costs have been donated in loving memory of Gerry Ingledew with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation.
Today was chosen to mark Gerry’s 74th birthday and the funds were kindly raised by all who kindly sponsored Paul to take part in Movember, growing then shaving a moustache for the month of November. We are very grateful for this donation in Gerry’s memory which will help us to care for all who need us today.
